Original Story: Dozens of Australian building sites contaminated by illegal Chinese asbestos imports, authorities say by Angelique Donnellan

Despite having been banned over 15 years ago in Australia asbestos building products are still being used in construction. To date over 60 newly built structures have been identified as containing asbestos construction products, and this is just the tip of the iceberg. Worst still, authorities in Australia expect to see this number rise as cheaper “Asbestos-Free” building products are imported into Australia from countries like China where asbestos use is not regulated. This is not a uniquely Australian problem, but is being experienced world wide.
